It is an excellent natural growing media that promotes proper retention of soil moisture while allowing for the required drainage for your plants health needs. **Every bag of Hawaiian Volcanic Cinder Lava Rocks weighs about 15 pounds! Soil Conditioner: Mix 4 parts of potting soil to 1 part of cinder. Add more cinder to increase drainage. Plants benefit from having air spaces in the planting media as they allow for the required nitrogen uptake by the roots. Also, cinder provides a safe and natural way for proper aeration. Bottom Drainage: To obtain proper drainage for potted plants, fill the bottom of your pot with a 1/2" or more of cinder. Then add your soil media to the pot. This layer of cinder will assist in drainage as well as minimize loss of soil media through the pots drainage holes. Pot Topper Or Landscape Ground Cover: For a natural appearance for potted plants, cover soil or media with a 1/2" or more of cinder. This will help to act as a mulch to keep the media from drying out. Cinder will help in keeping the soil in the pot and the weeds out. For landscape ground cover, use cinder to cover exposed dirt. This will enhance the color of the landscaped area as well as magnify the color of your plants. It will also assist your plants by retaining moisture in your soil and act as a barrier against weeds. |
