I come from a large family of about 1000 species of plants from herbs to trees. New varieties of me were first produced in Hawaii in 1872 by Governor Archibald Cleghorn. Since then I became very popular. I'm inexpensive to grow, relatively free of pests, beautiful to look at as an ornamental bush or hedge and my flower is positively beautiful. I make an excellent houseplant. I'm found in many homes, apartments, offices and other places of business. Growing instructions: Keep moist and out of direct sunlight. Your plant should grow well under normal home conditions for many months. Like most houseplants, when signs of top-heavy growth and overcrowded roots appear, repot in a larger container using soil with a mixture of peat moss and Hawaiian Volcanic Cinder Lava Rocks. Keep moderately moist and give an application of diluted fertilizer once a month. |
